After spurning her tribe in Gyr Abania for their Seeker culture, and leaving them for a better life. K'yano emigrated south to The Black Shroud where she met her beloved adopted brother Agrint.
The pair continued wandering Aldenard until finding their countrymen in Ul'dah and settling amongst the refugees forced to live in squalor.
On the streets of the Emerald Avenue K'yano taught herself to play a beat up harp she'd found until she became good enough to busk on the streets, earning a meager pittance, while Agrint took to odd jobs to earn the pair enough to survive.
On a routine trip to grow her collection in Ul'dah, Y'vonne came across a young crying Seeker who's harp strings had snapped. She offered to pay for replacements out of the kindness of her heart to which K'yano politely rebuffed, insisting she work off her kindness instead.
Seeing her squalid living condition, Y'vonne opted to take the young seeker under her wing, as an employee of the Aetherial Athenaeum, teaching her how to read, showing her worldly manners and introducing her to the civilized world in hopes of giving her a fighting chance.
